Gov. Fayose Evicts NSCDC, NABTEB, NPC And Others From State-Owned Properties Over Unpaid Rents
Ekiti State Government has evicted all Federal Government Ministries, Agencies and Parastatals from the state-owned properties in Ado Ekiti over unpaid rents.
The property – Fayose Housing Estate Afao Road, in Ado Ekiti – housed the State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Nigeria Prison Service, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control, National Orientation Agency as well as National Business and Technical Examinations Board among others.
Governor Ayodele Fayose had given out the place to the organisations during his first term in office.
Confirming the development, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer in the state, Tolu Afolabi, recalled that the state government had earlier given a year period of grace to them “to look elsewhere for accommodation or buy the property as the state can longer give out her property free of charge to anybody.
“The period of grace ended on December 31, 2016 after which a letter of eviction was served on the occupants of the estate,” he stated.
It was learnt that the state government threatened to drag the organisations before a rent tribunal sitting in Ado Ekiti if they failed to comply.
“With this development, NSCDC officers in the state are sacrificing part of their January salary to buy the property,” Afolabi added. -PUNCH
